Programma

QUAINT VILLAGES, THRILLING HISTORY AND LOCAL CRAFT BEER

This insider access all levels hike will take you off-the-beaten-track to nature and villages untouched by time. The route is about 11km long with 300m of elevation change. The path is a varied mix of single or tractor paths with some loose stones. This hike is family-friendly!

Be ready for:
* two unspoiled villages away from the tourist trails
* farm animals amongst stone-walled fields & in the wild
* an ancient bridge over a playful gorge stream
* undemanding slopes offering ever more spectacular views of the entire Madrid mountain range
* an abandoned railway track, viaduct & tunnel with a dark history
* a break at a Spanish Civil War prison labour camp
* an insider look into ancient stone mining
* a PERFECT finish to your hike with a choice of 7 types of amazing ecological craft beers in a mountain microbrewery on the historic village square - also a gluten-free option (delicious food also served, including vegetarian options)

Lunch/picnic/organic local products available at the starting village.

We will take a public bus from the Plaza Castilla terminal. For the way back you may of course stay longer in the village and take a bus back later!
Other things to note
The bus drivers don't accept any cards and they have limited change. You buy your ticket on the bus and it costs 5,10 one way. You can't buy a return directly. Drivers never accept notes of 20 or higher, so try to have the exact amount or notes of 10. There are cash machines at the terminal!

It all started 7 years ago when a June mountain snowstorm tied me to Madrid forever... Will you let Madrid work its magic on you too?

I will share my passions for hiking, history & craft beer with you . I've played around in the Alps since the age of 10 and got my official high alpine course certificate. Since 2013 I've explored every nook and cranny of the Madrid mountains & become a local Madrileño myself. Let me immerse you in Spain´s fascinating culture!

I'm also passionate about craft beer, its subtle differences in taste and the stories of the local people behind it. I've travelled around the world twice, so I know everyone has a story to tell. Local craftspeople as much as you and me. Through nature, an inclusive atmosphere I will connect you with all that is around!

The area is known as the 'Sierra Pobre' ('Poor Mountains') because of it's history as a backwater area. Luckily this means that our destination is unspoilt by mass-tourism. It will feel as if we have the area to ourselves. Our final stop is right in the beautiful old centre of Bustarviejo, with a commanding valley view. Both I and the people at the brewery are beer aficionados, so can tell you all about what you're drinking!

Joris was very welcoming, personable, and had a lot of interesting knowledge to share. Overall, it was a beautiful hike with interesting history (and great beer at the end)! I would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone wanting to learn about Spanish history, be in nature, drink beer, and meet new people! :)

Joris is a great guy and I'm thankful for this experience. Even though I live in the city, I find it worth to check his activity, leave the comfort zone and get to know new places in the region. I highly recommend this experience and assure that you won’t regret it.

This experience is a hidden gem of Madrid! Joris was spectacular. Meeting him at the bus station was very easy thanks to his detailed instructions. He is very friendly and open about his life and travels and showed a genuine curiosity about each of us. We started with breakfast before the hike and then we proceeded to walk through a peacefully town. The hike itself was very accessible for people of all ages and gave beautiful views of Spains countryside. Joris had expert knowledge of the surrounding areas and special insight to the history of the area. You are rewarded at the end with another peaceful town, delicious food and amazing beer. This experience is a must! Would gladly do again.

Joris was a fantastic host and we had an incredible day with him!! It was easy to meet up, the hike itself was unbelievably scenic (not at all strenuous), the microbrewery was in the most lovely little Spanish town, and the whole experience was unlike anything I would’ve been able to do otherwise. If you’re looking for a unique, enjoyable, outdoors experience with fun tidbits of knowledge along the way, Joris is your man!!
