Cosa farete

This experience will include a guided hike into the Rio Grande Bosque area. Treks along the river corridor will give us opportunities for wildlife viewing and a chance to experience this unique ecosystem. With an emphasis on viewing wildlife, identifying wildlife tracks, observing plants and the local geology and hydrology. All with the goal of furthering our appreciation and understanding of this ecosystem and it’s importance to native plants, wildlife and local communities.
You will have opportunities for photographs at stunning vistas. I will be equipped with local field guides, binoculars, and other field equipment. We will check game cameras set in the field to observe recent wildlife activity. Coffee or tea will be provided at a beautiful observation point long the trail. Hikes will typically last 2-3hours.
Additional viewing of the iconic Sandia Mountains as they turn a beautiful pink at sunset is also possible. Albuquerque is famous for its sunsets and the "pink moment" just before sunset on the Sandia Mountains. Being at the right place at the right time is critical for capturing this moment in all its splendor. We can end the day with a salute to the mountains and river and watch the sunset, reflecting on our experience that day.
Join me in an adventure found only here in New Mexico, at the edge of our city in the heart of the wilderness.
Other things to note
Anyone can come. Treks are picked to suit your abilities and interests and children are encouraged to come. To insure the best experience be ready for several hours spent outside. Proper attire is important, consider the day’s weather and be prepared for moderate hiking.

I am an Albuqueruqe native with a passion for the wild lands and wildlife of New Mexico. As a wildlife biologist I have spent decades exploring New Mexico's wilderness areas and observing our native wildlife. I enjoy sharing and teaching others about the rich biodiversity and breathtaking beauty of our landscape. With an understanding that Mother Nature is the best guide and teacher, I have honed observation skills that allow her to speak and show her true shelf. I hope to provide this same opportunity to explore and ask new questions while experiencing all that New Mexico’s nature has to offer.

Max has turned his passion for the Bosque into a fun, informative experience for others. And, it was good exercise, too! The cherry on this trek "sundae" was sharing tea on the bluffs overlooking Albuquerque, after the trek.

Highly recommend Max's Wildlife walk. He was welcoming and enjoyed answering questions about the bosque and wildlife. We saw turtles, porcupines, beaver signs, and had the company of a coyote who walked along on a parallel ditch bank.

This was a highly informative & enjoyable experience. Max has an encyclopedic knowledge of the Rio Grande river, New Mexico history, and the Bosque ecosystem. Max is an engaging & personable individual who welcomes questions. I enthusiastically recommend this experience - it was one of the highlights of our trip to NM.

This was a terrific experience. Max has a tremendous “database” of knowledge about flora, fauna and ecosystems. We left with a real understanding about the Rio Grande basin—what makes it unique and important. Cloudy weather took some of the bang out of the sunset but dusk on the bluff looking back toward the Sandra Mountains with a cup of tea was still a great way to wrap up. This is one that will change with the seasons and we’ll def do it again!

Magical trek through a unique ecosystem overlooked by the tourist literature. I didn’t know NM had native cottonwood forests! Max has a lot of knowledge over a wild breath of ecology and NM history - he knows the plants, reptiles, birds, mammals, and insects all well. We saw more wildlife than I would have guessed, including a roadrunner, porcupines, cranes, a bald eagle, and even a coyote - an interaction that I will never forget. I would have easily overlooked the Rio Grande river walk if I hadn’t signed up for this experience. Max is also a very sweet, sincere guy who works as a wildlife biologist professionally and does these experiences for fun.
