Cosa farete

We meet at Beppu station where a bus will take us to the starting point of our hike.
During the cherry blossom season, we will pass through the Sakura forest at the foothill of the mountain.
The path to the top is about an hour of quite steep and challenging road but we will do many little stops. Since there are no obstacles, we can cherish the beautiful spectacle of Beppu bay all the way to the top!
We go down from the backside of the mountain where the scenery is peaceful going through primeval forest inhabited by wild deer and boars. Then we pass besides secret wild hot springs (just to take a look unless you are keen on trying!) and drop by a small secluded temple afterwards.
Eventually we will reach the 'Myoban' hell region where geothermal steams engulf us while enjoying hell-steamed snacks, plus countless sulfur crystal harvesting huts are also waiting for you to explore!
We then refresh ourselves at a very local ‘private’ (the place is only for you, so it's perfect for beginners) sulfur hot spring (indoor or outdoor) before taking a bus back to the station.

*Please note that the activity will not take place in case of heavy rain.
Other things to note
Please make sure that in case you do not have hiking shoes, your trainers must not have flat soles.
Please bring warm clothes during winter months as it can be windy and cold on the top.

After spending a decade traveling & hiking, we fell in love with Beppu where extra ordinary landscapes and nature surround the city.
With our knowledge of the area along with intriguing tips from the locals, we share with you off-the-beaten-path and the incredible beauty of Beppu, the capital of hot springs!

Let us take you to the locals favorite but least hiked mountain, mt. Ohira, passing through a cherry blossom forest, wild "secret" hot springs, and explore sulfur harvesting grounds while learning the history, geography, and its very unique hot spring culture at your own private bath!

Check our other experiences as well!

Amazing experience! Dia spent the whole day with us and made the hike a breeze! He was helpful and patient even though we weren't experienced hikers and even took plenty of photos for us to remember the day. On the way he shared his impressive knowledge of Beppu and Japanese customs and history, which was so informative and helpful for the rest of our trip. The views were phenomenal and we got to see many different sides of Beppu, including a forest, a shrine and a temple as well as multiple "secret" onsens which were absolutely beautiful. After the hike he took us to an incredible private onsen, described the whole onsen process to us newbies and then left us in peace in our lovely private bath. Dia was friendly, enthusiastic and so incredibly easy to get along with. The whole experience was just incredible. The perfect introduction to Beppu! Can't recommend it highly enough!

My friend and I only had 4 full days to explore the Kysuhu island but I personally enjoyed Beppu. This tour definitely was the highlight of our trip. The tour was not boring because of Dia’s knowledge about the area. I’ve been longing for a nature walk and I’ve got more than what I expected as I hiked Mt. Ogiyama. It was tiring for someone who don’t usually hike but as mentioned in the description of this tour there would be stops along the hike, allowing us to catch our breath and appreciate the amazing scenery. After the long walk, there was just a sense of fulfillment. While staring at the greenery mountains, I realized that the long walk was all worth it. I also enjoyed getting around Myoban . Strolling through the rows of Yugonohana-goya huts, gazing at the exquisite scenery, and dipping in a private onsen was beyond amazing. Dia’s pleasing personality made us feel comfortable during the tour, not to mention he is also a half Filipino 🙂 He didn’t seem like a tour guide to us, rather like a long time good friend who tours us around the unknown and majestic places in Beppu. We cap off the day with a good food and Dia handed each of us a postcard (pictures taken by him) with a message. It was a kind gesture which I greatly appreciate 😊. I HIGHLY recommend this tour to those who want to experience a one of a kind nature’s calmness.

Diago is not only walking us through the mountain. He constantly provided us information about the culture and history of Beppu, and even knowledge of onsen - all the terminology of different types of hotspring - we found ourselves attending an onsen lecture! The most appreciated part of this trekking programme is that you are spending some good time with a truly passionate young man who loves life and nature, and all the time putting a big sunshine smile on his face. I would highly recommend this programme to anyone travelling to Beppu! Don’t hesitate and just enroll it!
