Before an experience is published, every new experience is reviewed to make sure it meets our quality standards. Experiences involving certain technically-specialized activities are subject to heightened review before being published on Airbnb. This heightened review is conducted by Evident.
Evident is an external company that verifies license and insurance documents for experiences involving certain types of technically-specialized activities. If you receive an email from Evident, you’ll need to submit the license and/or proof of insurance to be able to host. If you don’t want to provide your license or insurance information to Evident, you’ll need to remove the relevant activities from your experience.
You’re in control of the experiences you offer, but it’s also your responsibility to understand and follow any relevant laws and regulations. Neither Evident nor Airbnb can make sure that your experience complies with your local laws, so be sure you’re up-to-date on what’s required and consider consulting with an attorney if you have questions.
Airbnb Experience Protection Insurance program
Most experiences are covered by Airbnb’s EPI program, which provides coverage against liability claims up to US $1 million in the rare event a guest suffers bodily injury or property damage during your experience. Coverage eligibility depends on the type of experience you are hosting, and for experiences involving certain activities, we require hosts to provide proof of their own insurance covering injuries arising out of the activity. For a very narrow set of experiences, we require hosts to provide proof of their own insurance for a specific amount of coverage (up to $1 million USD).
If your experience was declined during the verification process, it means that your documents didn’t meet the standards that Evident and Airbnb require. You could have either submitted the wrong license or insurance, or your license or insurance expired. It’s also possible that Evident was unable to process your documents. If that was the case, Evident will reach out to you with a chance to re-submit your information once more before your submission is declined.
