*FIRE INFO: There is no danger in/around Venice. The brush fire in actual LA was quickly contained. Business as usual in Venice! Sun + Sand.
Venice at the beach! Sand and sunsets just a few steps away. Being this close to all the action makes for a wonderfully authentic & unique experience. No "5 minute walk" necessary - it matters!
Stay in simple but cheery guest room. Includes a comfy bed/bedding, fresh towels, skateboards + bike, beach "stuff" + a super easy going host.
Yes to cannabis.
The guest bedroom is simply furnished with:
-Comfy Ikea daybed that easily converts from TWIN to KING
-Cozy soft bedding and a fan/heater if you need it
-Please view pics!
I live on the first floor of a vintage craftsman that is becoming very rare in the neighborhood. The house is just steps (1/2 a block) from Ocean Front Walk and is located on an iconic street in Venice.
Think Charlie Chaplin, the Doors, and skateboarding legends - plus now some pretty great sandwiches and coffee shops - all right outside the front door. Trendy Abbot Kinney is two blocks in the other direction.
Located at the front of the house - attached to a small den (see pics). Room also has a small seating area/luggage area with french windows overlooking a quaint little porch.
BED -Twin that converts to King (see Ikea Daybeds - super comfy - see reviews). As a King bed it takes up most the room, but it's super easy to close back to a twin for space saving during the day. Bed also has three big empty drawers for clothes, shoes, etc.
My guest tell me that my location is unbeatable - and I agree. You can get closer to the beach by about a half block - but I think my place is even better as it is typically very quiet and feels like a community block, where just a block or two in either direction puts you in the middle of all of "the action" either on Ocean Front Walk, Abbot Kinney, Windward Ave, or Main St. Santa Monica.
Additionally, you can walk to everything you need here. It's glorious!
Things that are close:
--Ocean Views - from the front yard!
---The ocean, skate park, shops, artist vendors, aka "classic boardwalk scene" -1/4 block
---Trendy shopping street Abbot Kinney - 2 blocks
---Santa Monica - the boardwalk turns into SanMo about 1/2 mile down Ocean Front Walk
---The Marina and marina walk - about 1/2 mile heading south
--- Windward Circle - the famous Venice sign, shops, restaurants - 2 blocks
---Venice Canals - several blocks
0.9 miles: Main Street Santa Monica: tons of cute/cool shops and restaurants - not as "fancy" as Abbot Kinney - 1/2 mile
0.8 miles: Rose St - new shops and restaurants keep popping up here. I hate to use this horrid word again - but it's an up and coming TRENDY area ;)
I reside in the master bedroom and there will likely be 1 other guest in the 2nd guest room.
MUST LOVE DOGS:
My little dogs (under 25lbs) love people and other dogs, but will always throw out some barks upon a fresh opening of the door or a sound that goes thump in the night.
If you have allergies, want a bark free experience or just don't LOVE fuzzy things - this is definitely not the place for you! If you're not bothered by the above scenarios, you'll fit right in.
Also, apart from the potential barking, they will also accept belly scratches, lick your face and sit in your lap if you want them to - they are characters for sure. My french bulldog was even the star of an episode of "Bad Dog!" on Animal Planet - for being adorably stubborn.
MUST LOVE VENICE - (or think you will)
I live AT the beach. Yes, Abbot Kinney is three blocks away with some of the trendiest eateries and shops in LA, and you have a fairly good chance of seeing a celebrity.
With that said, Ocean Front Walk (OFW) is even closer - where the carnival feel of "old Venice" is still very much alive.
If you don't already know Venice well, please visit Trip Advisor, the comments there will illuminate if this is the right spot for you.
Here is a review I took from Trip Advisor about Venice; I did not write it but feel it summarizes the area well.
"There is no doubt that Venice is gritty. Yes there are homeless people around. Human beings that have fallen on hard times that live in a supportive community in Venice. Yes, there is a lot of Marijuana around and for sale - but this is legal in California. Clearly you have to be very careful at night. But that's true for so many parts of LA. During the day this is an interesting, diverse and exciting place to be with an atmosphere and energy that's almost unique. The skate park is fantastic, and this part of the Strand is amazing for walking, running, biking. There is an amazing range of restaurants in the area. I think if you come from a more conservative part of the country and have a point of view about society that's less tolerant, maybe this isn't the right place for you. But I think for most people this would make a great place to visit."
In general guests hang out in what I consider "the front" of the house, which is the den, guest bedroom, porch, and yard, but if you need to cook something up in the kitchen, it is 100% open to you. Same goes for stocking the fridge with your own goodies - I promise I won't care if you move some of my veggies either ;) We're pretty relaxed around here.
If you want to bring a visitor in - just let me know. No strangers or "new friends" please.
A bike and skateboards are available to borrow along with a variety of "beach stuff". Towels, body boards, umbrellas, chairs.
Interazione con gli ospiti
After hosting for a while I can safely say that guests can simply choose their level of interaction. I am always open to joiners when someone wants to join!
This has resulted in having dinner and drinks with some guests, skateboarding with others and having almost no interaction with some. All scenarios are fine with me.
Basically, I will just be living my life while you're here. Me living my life consists of working from home (digital marketing) playing from home (beach, skateboarding, gardening, hanging with a neighbor or two in the yard, watching a movie.), lots of crafts and "arty stuff' (tie dye, painting, remodeling a tiny travel trailer)..."very california" a friend of mine says, and it's true!
So, if it seems natural to interact then we shall! You don't need to hide out while you're here, but if you want to, it's pretty easy to do that too.
Altre cose da evidenziare
Venice is VERY marijuana friendly, and now the whole state has legalized/decriminalized marijuana. Guests should be okay with this and should not be offended to come in contact with marijuana or marijuana smoke.
Every guest must read the ENTIRE listing profile and photo captions before booking. Additionally. you must read the entire HOUSE MANUAL as soon as you book. Many guests have difficulty finding the house manual - please see your reservation details/itinerary after booking to locate it.
Check in is 4pm or later. Please DO NOT arrive even a little bit early as I do not want guests to be standing around outside with bags....I do leave my house sometimes! Also, I do not have a separate "bag drop" time; any arrival before 4pm is considered an early check-in. I can only notify you if an early check-in is possible the night before. Thanks for respecting the 4pm or later check-in time.
Venice is relaxed and I prefer that all my guests fit into this profile - it's in your best interest to read the details I provide!
*If you have never stayed in a room in a private home before, no problem, but PLEASE ensure that you understand AirBnB in general. If you have never been to Venice, please do a bit of research on the area as well. I want my guests to love staying with me!
Lastly, I live here and respect my neighbors and have a great relationship with them and would like for that to continue. I ask that you give the same respect to neighbors and others on property that I would give them, which is the utmost.
