Loved our stay at Valentina's. The Swiss chalet was perfectly designed to be rustic yet comfortable with all the basic needs met. Loved the location - south (quiet) side of the island and walking distance to the water where you can swim or go snorkeling. It's not a perfect beach - there's rocks - but we snorkeled out from there and had a blast. Rented the golf cart from Pia and it was an easy ride to Playa Norte and the swimming beaches and restaurants on the other side. The southern side is lovely and quiet with some stunning houses at the very tip of the island. There is another little cabin on the property that is very close to the chalet so that's something to be aware of and there was another couple staying there, but we had no issues at all. There are bikes for use - all in all it was a wonderful stay and i would definitely come back. Mostly dealt with pia (Valentina's mom) who was wonderful.

The Swiss Chalet is a bit outside of the town center, and is perfect for people looking to be out of the action. That said, there was still access to the beach (no swimming due to rocks), and a 20 min walk to Punta Sur where you can watch the sunrise (and sculpture park). The Chalet itself is humble, yet has everything you could need, not to mention the lot it's on has access to fresh fruits (we picked our own oranges, limes, and coconuts), as well as a fire pit for grilling. This place was perfect.

Saludos.

The place was amazing. So close to everything and on an amazing island, the house was exactly what we wanted: a place to use as a home base while we explored the island. Everyone was extremely helpful, and the place was clearly well kept and cared for. We could not have asked for more

We really enjoyed our stay on this quieter part of the island. It was nice being able to walk to Reggie's reggae bar and the lovely little beach at Hotel La Joya. Also a short walk to watch the moonrise over the ocean. The accommodations are very rustic but we are the outdoorsy type and enjoyed them more than a hotel room. Very nice to sit on the balcony. It was entertaining watching cars and golf carts go over the big speed bump out front. There is a large building across the street that is abandoned and looks like the construction was never finished. Some might find it off putting but we found it eerily beautiful at night. The other cottage on the property is very close to the Chalet. It is not quite as secluded as the pictures allude to but we enjoyed our time there. The main issue was the mosquitoes in the house and outside. The house has gaps in the floorboards and is not sealed up well. This allowed for mosquitoes to get in. The bed was comfortable. Pillows could use an upgrade. We enjoyed being able to cook in the kitchen. Pia was very kind to give us a ride to the store before taking us out there. She also gave us a ride to the ferry upon departure. Her husband comes every evening to water the yard. The water pump is very loud but the grass is very green. The shower has great water pressure. We appreciated being able to wash our laundry in the washing machine. This property is rustic but charming. Maybe not for high maintenance types but great if you want something different, a little off the beaten path. We made some great memories here!

Our hosts were very flexible when our arrival date changed due to a flight cancellation. Pia picked us up at the Ultramar ferry dock, took us to the grocery store to pick up a few items, and showed us around before taking us to the Chalet. Once there, she helped us get settled in. Fernando offered us use of their electric golf cart for a very competitive rate vs. the rental places elsewhere on the Isla, which we certainly took advantage of. There was a brief power outage that affected the entire island, followed by a problem with the water pump. The problem was fixed promptly and really didn't cause us any inconvenience at all. Pia helped us get a taxi to the Ultramar the day before we checked out, and she and Fernando stopped by before we left to say good bye. The Chalet is charming, with plenty of space to sleep at least 4. It has an air conditioner to keep things comfy (it works great!), a refrigerator, gas stove, and washing machine. It's in a great location away from the noise and traffic on the north end of the Isla. Everything is a relatively short drive away! There are a few things to keep in mind about this place: First, it is "rustic". It is NOT a hotel or condo. The floors are wooden planks and you can see sunlight through small parts of the walls. Basically, it's a tropical cabin :) Expect noisy birds outside, and a bug or two indoors. Second, if you're mobility challenged, you may have problems negotiating the stairs to the sleeping area. The stairs are steep with a tall rise. So if you have mobility problems, plan to sleep on the first floor. Third, if you have any problems, questions, or concerns, Pia and Fernando are great. They promptly answered our questions and dealt with the few problems we encountered. They are also very knowledgeable about the area and can recommend places to eat or visit. They were, overall, the best hosts we could ask for.
