Bracken Barn is situated on a hill overlooking Cuil Bay and Loch Linnhe, with views stretching down the Morvern Peninsula, past the small islands of Balnagowan, Shuna and Lismore…and all the way to the Isle of Mull.
Recently converted from an agricultural shed, it is now an extremely comfortable holiday home – a silk purse from a sow’s ear!
The high-ceilinged sitting room has a wood-burning stove and with large picture windows, guests will surely never tire of the ever-changing loch views.

Cuil Bay, in the small village of Duror, is about ½ hour south of Fort William and ¾ hour north of Oban. It is ideally placed for a number of leisure activities to suit guests of all ages and abilities. The immediate surroundings are of the loch, which is perfect for kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing and windsurfing, the hills which give good walks with wonderful views, and several beaches within walking distance for picnics and swimming (for the hardy!).
The Red Fox cycle track runs from Oban to Ballachulish, with plenty of “watering holes” along the way. Going North to Kentallen, the first is the “Holly Tree Hotel”, which also has a swimming pool and sauna; then there is the Café at the Dragons Tooth Golf Course, and at Ballachulish the award-winning Laroch Bar for lunch or dinner. Going South towards Appin, the first is “Castle Stalker View”, a café serving coffee, lunches and teas, or “The Old Inn” for a refreshing drink, award-winning beers and delicious bar meals; and for the more adventurous, the slightly further afield “Creagan Inn”.
The Dragons Tooth Golf Course is a lovely nine hole course, only 5 miles away, and for winter snow sports, Glencoe is about ½ hour’s drive, and Aonach Mor about 40 minutes. For indoor climbing, The Ice Factor Climbing Wall is in Kinlochleven and the Three Monkeys Climbing Wall is in Fort William. Both Fort William and Oban have cinemas and a variety of shops and attractions.
Duror is a perfect holiday destination for climbers and hill-walkers, being within easy reach of several Munros, as well as less challenging scenic walks through forests and glens. It is also well situated for exploring the Highlands and islands, easily allowing day trips by boat from Oban to the Inner Hebrides (including Mull, Iona and Staffa), from Arisaig to Rhum and Eigg and from Mallaig to Skye.
Closer to home, 5 minute ferries can take you to explore the beautiful islands of Lismore or Kerrera, either on foot or by bicycle, and a small car ferry hop at Corran will take you over to the Morvern and Ardnamurchan Peninsulas.
