Welcome to the Joseph Steiner House in beautiful, historic Brewer's Hill. Enjoy quiet comfort in your cozy, bright room in our historic home. Built in 1872, with all the modern conveniences, and the pretty Milwaukee city skyline in view.

Our home is also the home-office of Milwaukee's Shakespeare in the Park. During the months of May, June, and July we're heavily into production mode. This won't affect your stay but we do appreciate your patience picking through props and costumes.

L'alloggio

Our historic Victorian was built in 1872, but has almost completely been re-done inside and out. As is typical of historic homes, the bedrooms are cozy (read: on the small side) but there's room for 2 plus suitcases.

Your room is lovely, clean, airy, and comfy and is furnished with an eye to fitting in a little with the home's history. Recently painted, it is also still a work in progress with a few more cosmetic projects, such as finishing the hardwood floor.

We added a puppy to our home in May of 2017. Trystan was 6 months old when he came to live with us. The first thing we do when you arrive is introduce you. He can be free-range dog or in his kennel. He's fine either way.

Your upstairs bedroom includes...
- A real bed - a soft, queen-sized Beauty Rest.

- A wing back chair and reading lamp.

- An antique knee hole desk with a Windsor style chair. We keep an extension cord plug on top of the desk to make it easy to plug in your phone, laptop, or whatnot.

- Wifi access.

- A coffee maker in your room is stocked and stowed for easy set-up.

- The bookshelf with empty space for your items and a movable mirror on one of the shelves.

- Ceiling fan with dimmer lights and a dream catcher.

- A closet with hangars and a basket with a variety of essentials just in case you forgot something at home.

Your bathroom...
- Is downstairs on the main floor. It is 100% yours alone.

- The shower is stocked with shampoo and soap and plenty of towels.

As part of our restoration, your room has been recently painted. The only project remaining in your room is a new floor. Under the antique carpet, the floorboards are a work in progress. But, if you're looking for a pleasant place in a welcoming house, what's a little cosmetics between friends?

In addition to your room and bathroom...
- We added a puppy to our home in May of 2017. Trystan was 6 months old when he came to live with us. The first thing we do when you arrive is introduce you.

- If you're in the mood for a loung-y space outside your room, you're always welcome to the downstairs 'library'. Cushy sofas, pillows, footstools, and the wood burning stove. You're welcome to make a fire. Very cozy.

- The kitchen. There's a coffee set-up in your room, but we stock lots of tea and a wide array of cups (I love cups) and you're always welcome to use the shared kitchen. There's a microwave and the other usual features.

Additional guests: Your room is available for up to 2 people and it's the same nightly rate. I'm sorry, but we cannot accommodate more than that. We offer our room only via AirBnB which means that we don't have the option to accommodate an additional guest who will sleep in a communal area outside of your room and accept payment for the space outside of the AirBnB system. Thank you for understanding.

Accesso ospiti

In addition to your second floor bedroom, you have a bathroom with shower on the first floor. There's a coffee maker in your room but you're also welcome to use the kitchen. The 'library' with footstools and a wood burning stove, and the garden on the side of the house are nice lounging areas.

Interazione con gli ospiti

We only offer one guest room, so it's just you and us. We work from home, so the main floor of the house is also the office of Milwaukee's Shakespeare in the Park. Someone is usually here working most of the day. Feel free to wave as you walk by! We're theatre people (read: outgoing and friendly) but we also respect your space.

Altre cose da evidenziare

The house was built in 1872, when rooms were typically built smaller. Your bedroom is on the cozy side with a queen sized bed and is most comfortable for 2 people.

Your bathroom is on the first floor and your bedroom is on the second floor. We do mention this in our main description, but I want to make certain you're aware of that. The bathroom is never used by anyone but you during your stay.

This is a non-smoking house.

We live here, so we will be sharing space. The house has a number of 'hanging out' spaces, though and you're welcome to any of them.

You'll have your own key and are welcome to come and go any time of day or night, but please keep night time noise to a minimum - particularly after 10pm. We always leave lights on so you can see your way around at night.

There's no tv in your room, but we do have wi-fi and provide the password.

Check-in is generally after 1pm and check-out is 11am. Travel is rarely an exact science though, so keep us posted and we'll work out an arrival time that fits everyone's schedules. We strongly request that you arrive before 10:00pm. We also need to narrow down your arrival to a one-hour window.

If our guest from the night before hasn't checked out, but you're getting into town early, your welcome you to drop off your things and we'll move them into your room once it's ready.

Thank you again!

This is a lovely and artistic home with warm and welcoming hosts. The location was perfect for me, parking was easy, and Susan arranged for me to check in right after I had gotten into town. A great stay.

Susan, Ron, and Trystan were wonderful hosts and their 120+ year-old home is absolutely beautiful! The location was very convenient from our activities downtown, and in a quite, safe neighborhood. From the warm greeting, to the fond farewell, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The room was lovely, with a comfortable queen bed, thoughtfully stocked coffee and snack nook, information about the area, and books and activities for all ages. They have everything you might need (or have forgotten) to make your stay an enjoyable one. Our stay was short, but after a good nights rest we were on our way and all the better for choosing to stay with the Frys.

This was rated “about the same as expected” because I have stayed here before and already knew what a great place Ron and Susan’s home is. The last time I tried to mak a reservation here they were booked up. I will definitely try to stay with them on my next visit to Milwaukee.

Fabien

For me, this embodies so much of what I love about the airbnb experience. It can be far more than a place to sleep. It was terrific learning a bit about how Milwaukee and Boston differ in cultivating public arts, how beautifully Susan & Ron have made their Victorian homey. I hope they’ll have me back!

Susan is a very nice host, probably no better place to stay in Milwaukee. An added perk is a bike-share station a couple of blocks away.

We feel fortunate to be able to live in such a beautiful area and in an historic home. This house has a welcoming vibe and we love sharing it. My day job is the Executive Director for Optimist Theatre - producer of Milwaukee's free Shakespeare in the Park. The energy of guests sparks creativity!

AirBnB has become my version of the old time Sears Wish Book. One of my favorite things to do is look at listings and make wish lists so that I can travel in my dreams at the very least.

When I actually get to travel, the ideal situation is to go somewhere long enough to have to go to the grocery store and do laundry. In other words, I want to experience what it's like - albeit in a very small way - to live somewhere. To be a traveler, not a tourist.

I always look to AirBnB first. I've felt welcome and comfortable - and prefer staying in a home vs a hotel. Those experiences made me keen to share our home as well. It's a great place - on the register of historic places - which will always blow my mind! But, it's really a casual, comfy house with frumpy furniture, lots of pillows, and too many coffee and tea mugs

Travel is an important part of life. Whatever reason is sending you out of the house, I'm glad you're doing it. We'd be honored if you'd stay with us.
