If you visit Amsterdam, you have to go to rijksmuseum. It's recently renovated, and looks amazing. I recommend to buy tickets online, since the museum can be busy.

Museum within walking distance. This museum is not very populair under tourists, but is definately one I recommend. It focuses mostly on the dark side of the colonial times of the former Dutch empire.
