This is an amazing, tiny falafel take away place, usually packed with people waiting all the way around the corner to order their falafel! It's done a bit differently than the traditional way, as they put baked aubergines inside... yiammi!!! Great solution for a quick but really fulfilling and amazingly tasting, budget vegan meal to go!!! (Mon-Thu 11am-11pm, Fri-Sat 11am-midnight & Sundays closed)

Mmm... Amazing bakery close to Syntagma... Greek Cheese pies, Spinach pies and much more... Great option for a traditional, quick, but really fulfilling brunch to go! Great for tight budgets as well!

So, this is the traditional greek taverna. You sit and the waiter brings a huge tray in front of you with the starters, so you get to choose. My favorites are: boiled vlita veggies (green amaranth) served with olive oil and lemon, beetroot and yogurt paste, feta baked in greek traditional fylo with sesame and honey (!!!), fava or yellow split pea puree, marinated anchovies, zucchini meatballs, baked sardines, and many many many many more... Go there when you are really hungry because you will want to eat the whole menu...

Ok, so I don't know if you are into walking through a huge open butcher shop or a fish market, but that's what this is! It's Athens' central meat and fish market where all the restaurants etc come to shop. It's definitely interesting to see, and a bit smelly as well!

This is my favorite restaurant walking distance from home! It has the best location as it is away from the young and loud crowds of Gazi, and it is wonderfully set next to a church (well, that is, if you go during the summertime when all the tables are outside). It has really good, quiet service and atmosphere and a few but really nice gourmet style plates. A lot of Greek actors and famous people go there.

If you are in Monastiraki or Agias Irene's Square, ask for Aiolou Street and walk to number 68. Once you are there, walk in the alley, and you will see this restaurant at the end. If you are not driving, have some ouzo, or, better yet, my latest white wine addiction, Malagouzia Gerovasileiou!!! Ah!!! Athens, my sweet, full of treasures, Athens...

Traditional Cretan food store! I couldn’t find this place online and the search engine could not either so I posted it with the address. It’s called Sidonia, I guess from the Sidonia beach in Crete. I absolutely lllove this place and when I go I always end up getting a lllot of stuff!!! Cretan rusks, fresh bread, cheeses, olives, olive oil, honey! So so so good tasting and with the most warm hearted young man called Manolis at your service, open and kind and eager to give you stuff to taste and answer all your questions! Nothing fancy and fake, this is the real stuff in great prices!

I love the setting in this place. Romantic and mysterious at the same time, it hosts small live bands and theatrical shows. It's a fairly small place and It can get packed so go early or make sure there is enough place for you to sit, or stand!

Also, walk to the Varvakeios Central Athens Market on Athinas Street, and right across the street on your left hand side there is a huge, three stores high house/store ffffiiiilled with second hand home stuff! I have found some truly special and remarkable items in there-BUT, you will need to devote some time...!

Blue line Metro Station 10 min walking distance from home! One minute ride and you are in Monastiraki, three minutes ride and you are in Syntagma. From there, you can switch to the red line and get to the Acropolis in just 3 minutes. It goes straight to the airport in 45 min. It works everyday from 5:30am till 12:30am, Fridays and Saturdays until 2am at night. The airport line runs every half hour and it costs 10e per person.

90-minute ticket: 1.40€
24-hour ticket: 4.5€
3-day tourist ticket: 22€
5-day ticket: 9€
