Leatherhead RoadThe Isle of Wight makes a good day trip - either by Hovercraft from Southsea to Ryde or car ferry from Portsmouth to Fishbourne. Seaview (east of Ryde) is lovely, Priory Bay Hotel (on the edge of Seaview) is a lovely spot for lunch, Bembridge has a nice beach too. The Needles & Alum Bay (west) is easily possible in a day trip, as is Blackgang Chine on the southern tip. You can get a car ferry to Fishbourne and return via the Yarmouth / Lymington route.

City/town information
A cathedral city with a long history as a settlement; its Roman past and its subsequent importance in Anglo-Saxon times are only its beginnings. It is the seat of a bishopric, with a 12th century cathedral, and is home to some of the oldest churches and buildings in Great Britain. Chichester today is a local government stronghold, with three levels of government being administered there. It is also a transport hub, and the centre for culture in the region, with a Festival theatre and two art galleries. Nearby Chichester Harbour, together with the South Downs and the city walls, provide opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Chichester has a Waitrose, Tesco & Sainsbury’s supermarket on it’s perimeter as well as a variety of shops, restaurants and cafes within the city walls.

The second largest city in Hampshire notable for being the United Kingdom's only island city; it is located mainly on Portsea Island. As a significant naval port for centuries, Portsmouth is home to the world's oldest dry dock still in use and also home to some famous ships, including HMS Warrior, the Tudor carrack Mary Rose and Lord Nelson's flagship, HMS Victory. There is also a thriving commercial ferryport serving destinations on the continent for freight and passenger traffic. The Spinnaker Tower is a striking recent addition to the city's skyline. It can be found in the redeveloped former HMS Vernon, formerly a shore establishment or 'stone frigate' of the Royal Navy, now an area of retail outlets, restaurants, clubs and bars now known as Gunwharf Quays.
