This is a beautiful and moderately challenging hike about 20 minutes west of downtown. It is 6 miles round trip and ~1500ft of gain to the lake. There are a couple of small lakes along the way that make gorgeous stopping points. Plan for a half day if you're coming from the lowlands.

Comfy slip-on shoes or cozy socks, layers, and sunscreen
We're a shoes-free house so cozy socks or slippers are nice for indoors. The weather changes quickly at elevation, so bring warm layers that you can easily stash into a bag, and at 8,000 feet, you'll probably want some sunscreen and a good sun hat. If you forget a water bottle, we can lend you one--you'll need to drink plenty of water in our dry high-elevation climate.
