Leatherback Turtles This beach is only accessible during the day because it is patrolled by police after 6 p.m. to help protect the nesting sites of leatherback turtles. Between October and May, turtles come ashore to lay their eggs during the night. Playa Grande is considered to be the most important nesting site of these turtles, and locals take pride in protecting this land for these massive creatures. As the largest of the sea turtles, leatherbacks can grow to be seven feet long and weigh up to 700 kilograms! Travelers wanting to catch a glimpse of these shy creatures can attend a tour from Playa Grande to Tamarindo. Las Baulas de Guanacaste Marine National Park is a National Park of Costa Rica and a Ramsar Site. The park is managed by the Tempisque Conservation Area, and covers approximately a 167.3 square kilometres marine area of the Tamarindo Bay, next to the town of Tamarindo.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO PLAYA GRANDE, PALM BEACH ESTATES

FROM LIBERIA (Approximately ONE HOUR driving time.) Leave the Liberia Airport and at the main road turn right. If you are leaving the car rental places, head away from Liberia towards Santa Cruz. Roughly 30 minutes down the road, in Belen, there's a large gas station complex, turn right. You will see signs for Tamarindo,  Playa Conchal and Playa Grande. ALWAYS FOLLOW signs that read, "PARQUE NACIONAL MARINO LAS BAULAS." Continue on this road.  * In Santa Ana, at the Soda Shop, the road comes to a "T", turn left. Follow this road through several small villages and up over the hill  into Huacas

ADDITIONAL HOUSE RULES

The house has a washer and dryer and we understand that guests sometimes do need to wash clothing. However, we no longer allow free guest access to either as we have had some disappointing experience with previous renters abusing this curtesy. Playa Grande is in the dry zone so we always ask that people be mindful of water usage. However, we do offer that our maids handle the washing for our guests though. Please coordinate with our house manager and our maids would be more than happy to help you with washing and/ or maid services. Please know the cost for our maids are $6 per hour.
