Hikes

I hope you have a car, because a hike near Benidorm is very nice! You have two viewing points from where you can see the skyline of Benidorm. One is from the cross La Crue / Cruz de Benidorm on Calle Taiwan 14. You will see Benidorm from Playa Levante. The second one is from Torre del Aguilo and you will see Benidorm from Playa Finestrat. I prefer the last one, because you go through beautiful nature. You will find both hikes through Google Maps and a walk is named “ruta” with an icon of someone walking. El Castillo (the castle) Santa Barbara is located on Mount Benacantil, a rocky mass of 166 meter of altitude, bordering the sea. On its slopes archaeological remains were found of the Bronze Age, Iberian and Roman times, although the origin of the current fortress must be sought at the end of the 9th century, when the Muslim dominated Spain. The biggest reason why I love to go to the top of the castle is the view on the important buildings of the center of Alicante! There are 3 ways to go up to the castle. Two different hikes and one with the elevator at Playa Postiguet. Text and photos by Gertjan Holleman More info at www.walk-alicante.com

The start of the climb to the mountain of Serra Grossa is at Calle Obispo Victorio Oliver at the end where you see a wall with graffiti. The highest point is 176 meters and has a beautiful panoramic view, with on one side Alicante harbor, the mountain of San Julian and the Castillo Santa Barbara. And on the other side the skyline of San Juan. Text and photos: Gertjan Holleman More info: www.walk-alicante.com
