Getting Around
Amsterdam Central Station is where the adventure starts for many tourists that visit the city. This beautiful building was built between 1881 and 1889 on artificial islands and was designed by P.J.H Cuypers. Before the Central Station was build, former merchant ships used to enter the city from the waterside into the city, all the way to Dam square. Nowadays, Central Station is the departure point of many trams, busses, trains and ferries. Moreover, many of the canal cruises depart in front of the station. It is the nearest stop for the City Sightseeing main office, the old city centre, the Red Light District and Chinatown. Whether you start or end at this stop, it is definitely worth it to walk around and see these areas for yourself.
