Fun, walk-able neighborhood about 15 minutes by car from Bayview Cottage. Excellent restaurants include A16 (Italian), A Cote (small plates) and Oliveto (Italian). Market Hall offers a huge selection of gourmet foods, bakery and Highwire Coffee Roasters. A fun local sports bar is The Golden Squirrel.

One of Oakland’s greenest (and boujiest) neighborhoods. Start at Rockridge Market Hall, a European-style food hall, for excellent coffee (and cheese samples). Head up or down College Avenue past shops, breweries, flower shops, restaurants, and bakeries. But the real charms of Rockridge are found in its side streets and up its hills: veer off College Avenue onto any street to appreciate old Craftsman homes nestled into towering sequoia trees and banked by lush gardens. Climb up one of the many hidden staircases into the Oakland hills for jaw-dropping Bay views. After your urban hike, head to Wood Tavern for dinner and Tara’s Organic Ice Cream for dessert. By the way, Rockridge is located next to Temescal – combine them if you’re up for the walk!
