Tucked into a residential neighborhood, this hidden gem of a preserve offers different beautiful hikes. It’s very serene and you can walk straight down onto the shores of the peaceful Esopus Creek from here.
Best kept secret in Saugerties! A bit hard to find, but clearly marked once you know where to look for the signs off 9W, in Barclay Heights region just oustide of Saugerties Village. Beautiful hikes through woods to the pristine creek. Dogs allowed on leash. Wildlife sighting and bird watching!
Esopus Bend is a wonderful conservation area brimming with birds, butterflies, and flora and faunna. It's free and the trails are well-maintained and can be walked easily. Their have been eagle sightings. The Preserve offers ample chances to visit with a knowledgeable guide, so that's another option to learn more around the natural area. The walks take you to an opening with a magnificent view of the Catskill Mountains and the upper Esopus Creek.
