Home to the 3rd oldest Jewish congregation in America, Mickve Israel has been an active community since Savannah was founded. The temple is the only neo-Gothic synagogue in America.

Congregation Mickve Israel, one of the oldest synagogues in the United States, was established in 1735 by mostly Sephardic Jewish immigrants of Spanish-Portuguese extraction from London who arrived in the new colony in 1733. A rare Gothic-style synagogue, it is now is a member of the Union for Reform Judaism.
