The Nez Perce Tribe runs an excellent little museum out here, above the Spalding Mission site, which is now a beautiful wild-ish park area. It's a really great spot for picnics and Clearwater River views. Great for local history with a Native American focus, and the workers are usually extremely helpful and willing to chat when they have time

Wonderful museum depicting early life of the Nez Perce Indians and missionaries Henry and Eliza Spaulding. More information can be found on line under Spaulding Park.

This site is just one of several. This National Historical Park actually extends across several states - Id, Or, Mt. There are battlefields, places of cultural significance, etc. Spalding has the Visitor's Center, and a pretty outstanding museum that showcases Nez Perce cultural and traditional items. There's also historical artifacts such as a cemetery, and the remains of the Spalding MIssion. The park is a beautiful place for a picnic as well, with views of the river.
