Lincoln Castle was built almost 1000 years ago by William the Conqueror. Lincoln Castle has witnessed some of the most dramatic events in English History. The castle is unusual in that it has two mottes. The castle's grounds are free to enter and explore during non-event days-perfect for a rest or picnic in a unique location.
Excellent audio tours. Steeped in history. Hosts frequent events and gigs.
Fabulous day out, so much to see! Lincoln old prison, Magna Carta in new gallery, great cafe, castle walls.
It would be rude not to! Lots to do for the whole family and kids love the prison too
Built by William the Conqueror in 1068, Lincoln Castle, a stronghold along major routes of Ermine (York to London) and Fosse (Lincoln to Leicester) provided a strategic position for the Romans. Today Lincoln Castle is home to one of only four original 1215 Magna Carta, an original Victorian Prison, full 360° wall walks and interactive displays of Lincolnshire artefacts.
