An ancient village site. Beautiful! Walk around the old walls and feel the ancient spirit of the village. Good stop on the way north to Hawi. CLOSES at 3:30pm.
LAPAKAHI – Located in Lapakahi State Historical Park near mile marker 14 on Highway 270, this is a reserve and there is no real beach here. But the snorkeling is exceptional. The water is clean and clear in Koai’e Cove between site 11 and site 7 near the coconut grove. Not much coral but lot’s of fish. Stay inside the cove, the waters get unfriendly outside of its protection.

The main attraction here is the trails that you can hike oceanside and with a map that is provided in the information shack you can learn about the Hawaiian culture and what they did in their daily lives. There is not a lot of shade, if you go on a sunny day, make sure you bring a hat and sun screen . The hikes are short, all way under 1 mile. As an attraction, this is easily added to a day that is already full of fun!

It's a blast into the past of Hawaii, and it's a beautiful spot. You can swim and snorkel there too, but it's not a beach park--you cannot leave things on the beach.
